SLC announces LPL 2021 schedule

The second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL 2021) is set to kick-start from 5th December as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the contest's schedule on Wednesday. The entire contest is to be played across the two venues, Colombo and Hambantota.

LPL 2021 opener contest will be rivalled between last year's finalists, Jaffna Stallions who are now renamed as Jaffna Kings, and Galle Gladiators at R Premadasa Stadium. Whereas, the final showdown will be embraced by Hambantota ground.

Despite years-long of planning, SLC got successful in 2020 to finally make LPL happen as the tournament was played by the end of the year. This time, the SLC has decided to tweak the game's format including playoffs; Qualifier, Eliminator 1 and Eliminator 2 upon huge demand of players.

According to reports, nearly 75 overseas players have registered for the player draft including the likes of Chris Gayle, Mohammad Amir, Imran Tahir, Andre Russell, Dawid Malan, and Faf Du Plessis. Still, it does not mean that they necessarily will be playing but it is a matter of interest. Notably, last year's season faced several hurdles following rescheduling and players pulling out in the last hours.

Till yet, 225 players applications have been approved by the board for the LPL 2021 draft. Each of the five teams will allow a 20-member squad composing of five international players.
