CVC Capitals given final clearance to own Ahmedabad franchise

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is now all okay with the CVC Capital Partners, an American company that bought one of the two new IPL franchises, Ahmedabad Rockets, for the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League.

The company was under hot waters after the BCCI found its roots of investment in two big betting companies outside India. CVC Capital, the second-highest bidder and bought for INR 5625 Crores. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group was the first highest bidder winning the Lucknow franchise for INR 7,090 crore.

After multiple days taken to conduct scrutiny and issue legal wording documents to sign between two parties, the board has given clearance to the franchise, setting their ways clear to owe it.

It has also been learned that Gary Kirsten will act as a mentor of the Ahmedabad franchise whereas, Ashish Nehra will be the head coach. Moreover, Shreyas Iyer, who was released by the Delhi Capitals, is likely to captain the team during IPL 2022.

The mega auction, which is supposed to be a two-day affair following the inclusion of two new IPL teams, is set to be held on 12th and 13th February at Bengaluru. However, due to the rise in COVID-19 and its new variant cases, there are chances for the auction to get cancelled.
